A suite of major development projects including a modern KNUST Souvenir Shop, a state-of-the-art Multipurpose Laboratory, the University’s new Bottling Factory, the Institute of Rural Development and Innovation Studies (IRDIS), Agri-Impact Greenhouses and the KNUST Children’s Park have been commissioned to boost teaching, learning, research and student experience at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Her Excellency Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana, and His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene and Chancellor of KNUST, jointly inaugurated the projects as part of activities marking the climax of the University’s 59th Congregation.
The newly opened KNUST Souvenir Shop will serve as a modern merchandising centre, providing high-quality branded accessories for students, staff, alumni and visitors.
The Vice-President also cut the ribbon for the four-storey Multipurpose Laboratory block, designed to expand hands-on practical training and multidisciplinary research, ease pressure on existing science labs, and offer world-class research environments for students and faculty.
Another key milestone of the day was the commissioning of the KNUST Bottling Factory, equipped with advanced processing and packaging technology to boost the University’s beverage and bottled water production capacity.
In a parallel ceremony, the Asantehene, accompanied by the Chairman of the University’s Governing Council and the Vice-Chancellor also commissioned the Institute of Rural Development and Innovation Studies (IRDIS), the Agri-Impact Greenhouses project, and the KNUST Children’s Park, expanding academic infrastructure, agricultural innovation spaces and child-friendly recreational facilities on campus.
“These projects are not merely new additions to KNUST’s physical landscape; they reflect the enduring vision, leadership and commitment that His Majesty continues to inspire within the University community,” officials noted.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II applauded the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, the University’s Management, constructors and architects, commending their diligence and teamwork in advancing the University’s mission of academic excellence, innovation and service to society.
